Art Advice: How to make a gallery wall around a TV

The TV is often a central feature of the living room – but rarely the most aesthetically pleasing. Yet the rising trend of disguising the TV within a gallery wall is creating new opportunities for creativity. By framing the TV with art, you can incorporate the TV into your interior design – and create a wall that looks great, feels personal and is well put together. For this Art Advice assignment, we were given free rein to create a picture wall around a TV in a home that was already full of touching details. It was exciting to have a project where we weren’t staring with a blank wall, but refreshing an existing gallery wall with new details – the gallery wall included a piece painted by the client's father. This kind of personal detail creates a story and makes the final result feel more personal.

We chose to enhance the existing art with new designs from Everything is Art, together with a few older pieces from our collection that would complete the look. Here are three things to consider when styling around your TV:

Think about the whole wall, not just the TV
The aim is for the TV to blend into the gallery wall. By hanging art with similar colours and formats to the TV, it’s possible to create a curated look and feel. Some smart TVs let you pick a design as a screensaver, which of course can help you complete the gallery wall.

Mix personal favourites with new designs
Combining your own art collection with new prints creates a more vibrant and interesting gallery wall. It doesn’t have to be perfect, dare to experiment – this is where you can get creative.

Aim for balance and keep the colours cohesive
Pick a selection of calmer designs that create breathing space, bolder pieces that grab your attention, and bring them together with smaller pieces that keep the colour scheme cohesive. Your aim is to for it not to feel cluttered but rather considered.

How we styled art around the TV

For this Art Advice project, we created a dynamic look by picking out different sizes and art styles yet picked a cohesive colour palette to makes sure it felt well thought out. We let the bolder designs take centre stage, while smaller pieces enhanced the overall look without taking over. This created a lovely balance where each piece of art holds its own, without competing.

Creating a picture wall around a TV is an easy way to elevate the entire room. Rather than trying to hide the key feature in the living room, you are giving it a beautiful space to exist. By mixing personal pieces with carefully selected new art prints, you can create something that feels alive and completely unique to your home.
